Athlete of the MonthMarch

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF. WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?

I moved to Chicago in October of 2020, being able to say not even a month after moving that I found such an amazing community is something not everyone can say. Fitness is my main hobby. Aside from fitness I like being outdoorsy and adventurous. I like to travel and try new things as often as possible, be open minded to new experiences. I am a dog dad to the cutest Jack Russell, Baxter. I love going to concerts and building Legos (they are not just for kids and can be challenging!). The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) blows my mind.

WHAT INITIALLY GOT YOU INTO TRAINING AND WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?

When I was younger, I had a hard time with sports, by that I mean I never found something I liked, was good at or passionate about. Growing up in a Latin country (Guatemala) where the main sport was soccer and others were aggressively passionate about it, not feeling the same passion for the sport made me avoid it and comfortably sit on the side line. Weight training is something I feel connected to and passionate about, therefore, I am highly motivated to keep coming back and continue to get better.

FAVORITE WOD/MOVEMENT?

As I’m sure a few other members that see me do it very often(maybe too often)…DT is a fav WOD of mine, and another goal to get to RX.

LEAST FAVORITE WOD/MOVEMENT?

Might sound strange but the bent over barbell row. Hate it. Lol

ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE INTERESTED IN TRYING OUT HARDWARE?

Start slow, go light, focus on quality movements before adding weight. Listen to your body, take time to stretch and do mobility early on! But also DO IT because it’ll be fine like a second home and family!
