TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF. WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?
Outside of the gym, I rollerblade most mornings on the lake with my dog whenever the weather permits. I take beginner French at Truman Community College, and I am a huge fan of Chicago’s Community Colleges. I just started taking tennis lessons, too. I am an entrepreneurial sort but I try to work as little as possible. And I enjoy visiting my kids in Los Angeles and going on vacation with my family.
WHAT INITIALLY GOT YOU INTO TRAINING AND WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
I initially came to Hardware with my daughter, Lucy. I am a lapsed judo player who was looking for a new and better way to stay healthy and avoid injury. I keep coming back because I know a consistent routine is important to stay healthy and avoid injuries as I age. And I love the sense of community at Hardware.
WHAT ARE YOUR FITNESS GOALS? HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO REACHING THEM?
For me, fitness is the path, not a destination. The practice is the goal. I want to stay healthy, avoid injuries, and live a long and active life.
WHAT’S AN ACCOMPLISHMENT OR GOAL YOU’VE REACHED AT HARDWARE THAT MADE YOU THE MOST PROUD?
I am happy to be able to show up and work out, and that is accomplishment enough, and goal achieved! I enjoyed participating in the Xfit Open the past two years, especially when Lucy and I did it together.
FAVORITE WOD/MOVEMENT?
Anything that works the posterior chain makes my back feel very healthy, so back squats and deadlifts are particularly good for me.
LEAST FAVORITE WOD/MOVEMENT?
Thrusters. Shoulder mobility and hip mobility are both works-in-progress, and thrusters tax them both.
ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE INTERESTED IN TRYING OUT HARDWARE?
Make it a family affair!
