Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do outside the gym?
I design and sew clothing, sing semi-professionally with a local performing arts organization, direct a scholarship program for international students, and provide emotional support to my anxious dog.
What initially got you into training, and what keeps you coming back?
I started coming to Hardware because I wanted to invest in my wellbeing but was never confident figuring it out on my own at traditional gyms. I appreciate getting to learn from caring coaches in the context of an equity-centered community where we really celebrate each other. Training at Hardware helps me get out of my head and generally to be more present in my life.
What are your fitness goals? How close are you to reaching them?
I really just want to keep enjoying functional movement for as long as I’m able, to do what I can to feel good in my body now and in the future. I managed my first (very messy) muscle-up recently and would like to keep working on that!
What’s an accomplishment or goal you’ve reached at Hardware that makes you the most proud?
I’m proud that coming to the gym has become an organic part of my routine. It doesn’t feel like a chore. Getting to see good friends at Hardware every day definitely helps with that!
Favorite WOD/movement?
Maybe toes-to-bar? I like gymnastics in general because those movements feel playful!
Least favorite WOD/movement?
Wall balls…
Any advice for someone interested in trying out Hardware?
Hardware is a great place to be a beginner/learner. I felt really supported when I first started, and I still learn new things at the gym every day, even years later!
