Brian E. (He/Him)

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do outside the gym?

Professionally, I do everything real estate; im a managing broker with @properties, a. developer, landlord, property manager, and investor.  Im always down to talk real estate except for the 5 minutes after class when I am trying to breathe.  My hobby is collecting credit card points and miles and travel as much as I possibly can.

What initially got you into training, and what keeps you coming back?

I live a few blocks from the gym and would always see members running or working outside while I walked my dog.  I was very intimidated.  I’ve always worked out in traditional gyms and never could put on weight.  So, when I turned 40 I decided to give Hardware a try. And I put on 10 pounds my first year.  And that was 11 years ago and I have been a member ever since.

What are your fitness goals? How close are you to reaching them?

My goals are always changing.  Initially, it was to put on weight.  Now its more about general movement and cardio.  And making sure my body is as healthy as possible.  Turning 50 really put things in perspective and to really cherish my body and not take it for granted.

What’s an accomplishment or goal you’ve reached at Hardware that makes you the most proud?

11 years of showing up.  And muscle ups.  I had to quit them for a couple years and then completely re learn them because I kept “chicken winging” them and it caused shoulder issues.  With the coaches help I corrected my form.

Favorite WOD/movement?

I love bodyweight movements; handstand pushups, T2B, pull ups, burpees, rope climbs

Least favorite WOD/movement?

 Overhead squats

Any advice for someone interested in trying out Hardware?

It will seem overwhelming and daunting to start but just remember every single member was in your position at what time or another.  And the coaches and members are all very supportive.
